Jean Laurent (Johannes, Joannes, Johan, or Jan, and Laurentius, Laurens, or, sometimes, Lodewijk) Krafft, (1694-1768). He is an Flemish engraver and a rhetorician, writing in Dutch and French. Marcus Gerards (Bruges, ca. 1521-probably London, ca. 1590) mainly made a name for himself in Bruges with his city plan, which he drew and painted in 1561-1562 and, whether or not engraved on copper himself, on behalf of the city council. He was versatile in painting figures, landscapes and buildings. Gerards was also versatile in the techniques: painting on canvas, drawing, etching and illumination of books. In 1567 a richly illustrated book was published by printer Pieter De Clerck in Bruges under the title De warachtighe fabulen der Dieren. Marcus Gerards supplied 108 engravings, almost always occupying a full page. Gerards acted as publisher himself. Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling.
