Biography artist: Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German painter, engraver and art historian. His monumental Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Kunste (1675-1679) was among the earliest comprehensive art histories in Europe, combining artist biographies with studies of classical sculpture and antiquities.
