Biography engraver: Georg Christoph Eimmart (1638-1705) was a German engraver, draughtsman and scientist active in Nuremberg. He engraved numerous plates for Joachim von Sandrart’s Teutsche Academie, contributing to the dissemination of classical antiquities and art theory in the German-speaking world. Biography artist: Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German painter, engraver and art historian. His monumental Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Kunste (1675-1679) was among the earliest comprehensive art histories in Europe, combining artist biographies with studies of classical sculpture and antiquities.
