Biography engraver: Georg Christoph Eimmart (1638-1705) was a German engraver, draughtsman and mathematician active in Nuremberg. He produced numerous plates after Joachim von Sandrart and other artists, contributing significantly to the illustrated editions of the Teutsche Academie. Biography artist: Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German painter, engraver and art historian. His monumental publication Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Kunste (1675-1679) was one of the earliest comprehensive histories of art in the German-speaking world, combining artist biographies with studies of classical antiquities and art theory.
