Biography artist: Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German painter, engraver and art historian. His monumental publication Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Kunste (1675-1679) was one of the earliest comprehensive histories of art in the German-speaking world, combining artist biographies with studies of classical antiquities and art theory.
