Biography engraver: Hermanus van Brussel (1763-1815) was a Dutch painter, etcher, draftsman and watercolourist. Van Brussel started out as a wallpaper painter. He also painted theatre sets, including for the Amsterdam Theatre and, at the request of King Louis Napoleon, for the theatre in Het Loo Palace. In Haarlem he painted sets for the theater company “Kunstliefde”. His works include paintings and drawings of landscapes, often made around Haarlem, and cityscapes.
