Description This print shows a satire, a view on the fall of Bournonville with 15 line letterpress explanation in Dutch, on the treason of Dumouriez (1 april 1793) which brought De Bournonville and 4 Dutch agents, the partiots P. Quint Ondaatje (Utrecht), Wybo Fijnje and Gerrit Paape (Delft) and Pieter Cordemans (Rotterdam) in the hands of the Austrians. The bow in the sky through which De Beurnonville rides like Phaethon, is called “Bredaas Poort, the cities on the tower of Babylon are Klundert, Geertruidenberg, Breda. The mentioned Patriots are represented here as donkeys drawing chariot of the Bernonville. At right on the foreground 6 French politicians mentioned by name in the explanation. At left a group of cheering Dutchmen. Made by an anonymous engraver/artist. Medium: etching / engraving on handlaid (verge) paper. Sheet size: 32 x 33.5 cm (12.6 x 13.19 inch). Image size: 30.5 x 31 cm. (12.01 x 12.2 inch). Condition: good, given age. Small holes in margin. Paper loss upperleft corner restored. Two paper tapes on reverse.. Creases.
