Gamakatsu Single Hook 62 Vertical Heavy Jig Hook A dedicated jigging hook built for one purpose: subduing giant fish (Big Game) weighing over 100 kg. Unlike standard hooks that are simply thickened to achieve strength, the 62 Vertical Heavy is engineered to solve the most common problem in deep sea fishing: the ability to set a thick hook in the mouth of a tough fish under immense water pressure. The big challenge in monster fishing is that a hook that is too thick is hard to set (due to material resistance), and a hook that is too thin will straighten out. The 62 Vertical Heavy is Gamakatsu’s solution to this dilemma. Wire Gauge Calculation: The hook isn’t “just thick.” The metal diameter is carefully calculated to provide resistance against tons of tuna and amberjack, but it remains thin enough to penetrate the fish’s jaw even at great depths (Deep Water) where line elasticity and current “swallow” some of the angler’s hook-set power. “Long Throat & Bend Form” Structure: The shape of the hook is not a regular circle. It has a relatively long “throat” (the distance between the point and the lower bend). The goal: Once the hook is set, it “locks” the fish at the deepest point of the bend. The result: Absolute stability (Stable Hold) during prolonged fights, preventing the hook from dancing and widening the hole in the fish’s mouth (which causes escapes). Vertical Eye: The hook’s eye is aligned parallel to the shank. Advantage: This is the ideal structure for tying Assist Hooks. It allows the assist cord to sit more naturally and prevents unnecessary twisting of the hook in relation to the jig. Hyper Shield Technology: The hook is not coated with a regular nickel coating, but with Hyper Shield. This is an advanced Gamakatsu coating that provides extremely high resistance to corrosion (rust) and keeps the point sharp for longer, even in aggressive saltwater.
